Healthperm welcomes the proposal by the Royal College of Nursing to look closely at nurse-to-patient ratios and supports Janet Davies in this new initiative.
Over the last few years all parts of the NHS across the UK have recognized the importance of staffing ratios as a lead indicator to support patient safety initiatives. The evidence from other countries use of such ratios supports the value they can bring. This approach should be one of a number of measures which contribute to the development of a stable and ‘patient matched’ workforce plan. Healthperm firmly believes the deployment of a permanent workforce of the right size and with the right skillsets will optimize the NHS budget. The current system wastes far too much resource on agency staff because of the current challenges to attract and retain talentThis is a great opportunity to highlight the outstanding care that is provided by our wonderful nurses at our NHS hospitals.
